Projects

Nadia Francavilla is deeply committed to nurturing and developing audiences for new and experimental music, day after day, year after year. Here, a selection of recent and upcoming projects in service of that heartfelt aim:

Noisemakers

Noisemakers consists of short documentaries on important composers, primarily from New Brunswick, whose works shaped the world of Canadian new music. Each 10-minute documentary highlights a specific aspect of the composer’s practice, through new interviews and new recordings of excerpts of their music.

Three documentaries filmed in 2022-23, on composers Richard Gibson, André Cormier and Jānis Kalninš, will be made public in fall of 2023. A fourth one, with composer Nicky Lizée, will be filmed live in concert in winter 2024.

Noisemakers is made possible by a Documentation grant from the New Brunswick Arts Board.

NB Contemporary Music Festival

Established in 2019 and curated each year by Nadia Francavilla, the NB Contemporary Music Festival highlights music from emerging and established women composers.

The festival explores the intersections between classical, electronic, and other contemporary idioms, while providing a platform for diverse musical artists, dancers, and visual artists to come together in new creations and offer a distinctive and exclusive program.

The 2024 NB Contemporary Music Festival, Echoes, will be held from November 22-24, 2024.
